I
want to know Christ and the power
of
His resurrection…
Philippians 3:10 NIV
In
Philippians three, the Apostle Paul enumerates his reasons for having
confidence in the flesh—his human standing and ability:
Circumcised on the eight day after
birth; a Jew
A Jew by nationality and upbringing
A Pharisee regarding the law
A zeal for persecuting the church
Faultless in his legalistic
righteousness
Yet
in Philippians 3:7-8 Paul writes, “But whatever was to my profit I now consider
loss for the sake of Christ. What is more I consider everything a loss compared
to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I
have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ”
In
verse nine, He goes on to write, “and be found in Him, not having a
righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through
faith in Christ—righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.”
Paul
would not settle for intellectual knowledge about Christ, but desired to experientially
and intimately have a shared life with Christ—to be found in Him by laying
aside his human righteousness in the law in exchange for righteousness in
Christ through faith in Him. Total dependence and trust in Jesus Christ!
Do
you, like Paul, desire an intimate experiential knowing of Christ? Are you
willing to lay aside the desires of your flesh in your pursuit of knowing Him?
Does Jesus matter more than all else in your life? Will you join me as together
we pray, Lord, I want to know You?
