But
Christ is faithful over God’s
house
as a son. And, we are his
house
if indeed we hold fast our
confidence
and boasting in our
hope. Hebrews
3:6
The New Testament Greek word translated
into our English word faithful tells
us that faithfulness is a belief or trust—with an implication that actions
based on that trust may follow. As a Christian, faithfulness is a firm
conviction that God is working and acting on my behalf.
Recently, I have had several opportunities
to see the work of faithfulness in the lives of others. I have witnessed
loyalty to friends and dependability to carry out responsibilities—wives caring
for husbands and husbands caring for wives. I have been reminded of a Charles
Dickens quote from his book A Tale of Two Cities, “It was the best of
times, it was the worst of times…”
And isn’t that when true faithfulness is
made apparent—in the worst of times! Proverbs 3:3 tells us to “Let not
steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write
them on the tablet of your heart.”
In the worst of times, faithfulness rises
to the top like the sweetest crème or sinks to the bottom revealing the
superficiality of one’s belief. Jesus expressed His view of faithfulness when
addressing a group of scribes and Pharisees. In Matthew 23:23 He told them, “Woe
to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and
cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law; justice and mercy
and faithfulness.”
So in the midst of our politically correct
charged society, we must remain faithful to our belief in the One and Only true
Jehovah God I AM! There is no room for error on this matter. Jesus is Lord! We
either believe all the way or not at all, and our belief should be displayed by
our faithfulness to be and act the way God would have us be and act!
We cannot straddle the yellow line down
the middle of the road. We cannot claim the name of Christ then go about our daily
lives living like those who do not know Jesus. Others are watching your life
and mine. What will they see? Faithfulness?
Revelation 2:10 tells us to Be faithful, even to the point of death,
and I will give you the crown of life.” That promise is eternal. In good times,
bad times and in-between times, my prayer is that God will strengthen you and
me and give us tenacity as we continue to be faithful.
