Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10a
Do you realize God invites you to know Him? Not only
about Him, simply that He exists or is eternal, or any other fact of His
character. Rather, He invites you and me to share a warm, affectionate, tender,
compassionate, personal relationship with Him, Author, Creator, and Sustainer
of Life.
The Hebrew word for
“know”—yada-- used in Psalm 46:10, does not imply that you stop whatever you
are doing and wait for God to reveal Himself. It’s more than that. Literally
it’s “take your hands off and relax!” In other words, cease striving, let go,
and trust God to care for you.
In our hands-on-world
preoccupied with thoughts of self-sufficiency, God offers you refuge, strength,
and help in times of trouble. He offers intimacy with the Almighty. He
offers an invitation to know Him
personally.
In John 14:6 Jesus
tells us how to begin our intimate relationship with God when He says, “I am
the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
Me.”
Today, right now, in
this moment, no matter your life circumstances, God invites you to take your
hands off and relax. Be still and accept His invitation to truly know Him.
