Be Still and Rest

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall

abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:1

In Genesis 2:1 we read, “By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so, on the seventh day He rested from all His work.”

We live in a hyperactive world. The “to do” list often exceeds the hours needed to complete the list. By evening you might drop into bed and by morning crawl out with no hope that today will differ from yesterday. But in His Word, God provided the perfect example for living in this hyperactive world. He rested! He did not only tell us to rest. He rested! He demonstrated that rest is suitable, proper, and appropriate.

Inhabit, settle, dwell in the hiding place, the secret place, the cover of the Most High. There you find rest in the shade and protection of the Almighty, Omnipotent, All-Powerful Ruler of Heaven and Earth. He becomes your place to pause, stop, catch your breath. Your place of quiet. Calm. Tranquility. Peace. Refuge. Your place to trade fear for faith, restlessness for refreshing, and hopelessness for hope.

When you feel exhaustion rushing in, fret not! Accept God’s invitation to stop, sit a while, and catch your breath in the shadow of the Almighty. Be still and rest.
