For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.
I Samuel 15:23 KJV
Suddenly, I heard
the voice of God in my spirit saying, “Five miles over the speed limit is a
heart of rebellion.” Whoa! The loud
voice caused me to look at the empty passenger seat. Immediately, my foot
lifted from the accelerator.
I have never
considered myself a rebellious person. Having a heart of rebellion would have
been the last answer I would have given someone asking me to list my
weaknesses. Yet, there it was—undeniably revealed by God. “So,” I asked myself
aloud, “Just what are you going to do with this?”
I knew the
Scriptures teach that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. I remember
thinking, “That’s pretty strong language LORD
for five miles an hour over the speed limit.” But I soon realized that the
speed limit did not concern God. The attitude of my heart—the “I have the right
to do that” attitude, which surely filtered through to other areas of my
thinking, that concerned God—a rebellious heart, sin, alive and well in me.
I immediately
repented and asked God to forgive me. I needed His help in breaking the bondage
for I enjoyed this sin. I will not tell you that I never speed. I will tell you
that it is no longer intentional. When I look at the speedometer and see the
needle rising, I lift my foot off the accelerator and my head toward heaven
audibly repenting.
How about you? Do
you have something in your life that is not pleasing to God? Perhaps, like me,
you would not list this particular item as one of your less desirable
qualities. Perhaps you think it is so small that God won’t notice or perhaps
you enjoy it.
Search your heart
today. Ask God to reveal to you any attitude that is not pleasing to him, any
action that is contrary to His will, any desires that are not holy unto the LORD and anything in your life that would cause
you to have a heart of rebellion.
